A fun environment where children can explore social challenges and learn to modify their thoughts and behaviors based on their setting. The group will equip students to help themselves by reducing meltdowns and fear while simultaneously increasing their repertoire of social skills.
 
  A social skills group may be helpful for children with the following problem(s):
  • Asperger’s/PDD Disorder
  • Social Anxiety
  • ADHD – Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder
  • Poor Impulse Control
  • ODD – Oppositional Defiant Disorder
  • Behavior Problems
  • Conduct Disorder
  • Learning Disabilities
  • Social Rejection by Peers
  • Excessive Shyness
  • Aggressiveness
  • Social Interaction Difficulties
  Skills that may be addressed in your child’s group:
  • Making friends
  • Respecting personal boundaries
  • Starting a conversation
  • Joining a conversation
  • Ending a play activity / conversation
  • Taking turns
  • Compromising
  • Shifting topics
  • Getting attention in positive ways
  • Talking too long
  • Discussing sensitive topics
  • Asking for help (how/when)
  • Giving background information
  • Introducing topics of interest to others
  • Interrupting (how/when)
  • Regulating tone of voice
  • Picking up appropriately on social cues
 
 
Groups are formed based on age, language ability, and level of attentiveness. Students meet in groups of 4-6 similarly aged peers

When: Beginning the week of June 12 and ending the week of August 14, 2012. Groups will run in 10-week cycles which meet once a week for one hour. Each student will be assigned a group based on age and specific social difficulties.
Students can register for additional cycles if desired.

Cost: (includes 10 group sessions and one individual session with Dr. Leist)
$455 + $45 registration fee due at time of registration.
Out-of-network insurance can be filed.
